Science Gears and Pulleys


Welcome greade 4 students

I told you that the ‘test’, on simple machines, would be a review. Not to worry everybody did an excellent job!

So we are continuing with Pulley and Gears, however, as you learned today we have moved into compound machines. Remember compound machines are a combination of two or more simple machines working together. The first link below will help you identify the simple machine from the compound machine. The second link below is a review game for simple machines.

Math has terms!


Hello!

 

Well it is nice to see that our class is moving at a good pace for math. Just to review, we have moved into geometry: prisms and pyramids. I know Math can get a bit confusing with all of the terminology. I found this great math site that will help you with ANY terminology that you need. Like a dictionary it will define the word that you looked up and will display a picture to help you visualize it.

HELLO 

As promised I am posting the review of the vocabulary for ‘Simple machines’ for your test on Wednesday.  I know there is a lot of information to take in, however keep reviewing and find simple machines (tools) in your house and try to figure out how they make work easier.

 During the test there will be 5 Simple Machines in the classroom. You will have an opportunity to see, touch and work the simple machines. This will help you on the test if you are having trouble visualizing how each one works. 

Relax the test is a review of what we have already done in class! No Surprises I promise!

Math: Multiplication


Hello grade 4 students! 

I hope you are enjoying the sunshine! 

I know we have been working hard on the multiplication tables consisting of multiples of 1, 2, 5, and 10. Everybody is doing an excellent job with multiplying! Here are some fun games you can play in order to practice. If you are finding the questions too easy please feel free to try some of the other questions. You can use your multiplication chart that we created in class to help you.

 Don’t forget to have fun!

Parents

Dear Parents,

 I am thrilled to welcome your children to Grade 4.  This school year promises to be an exciting one and I am really looking forward to spending another year with previous students, getting to know new ones, and working in partnership with you to create a positive, challenging, and enthusiastic learning environment

 

I strongly encourage students entering the junior grades to take responsibility for their own learning; students need to learn how to organize their time, materials, and space.  To support this skill development, agendas will be used as organizational tools for students.  The agendas have arrived, and can be purchased for $5.00. These do not only serve as a reminder of homework and special events, but also as a communication tool between the teacher and the parents, and a way to develop your child’s organizational skills.  Please check and initial your child’s organizer every night so I know it has been read.  Also, if you wish to write a note, feel free to use this space, as I will check it each morning.  

 

 Last year, many parents offered their assistance both in and out of the classroom. Their support was very much appreciated! Volunteers in the school system must have a police background check (which is to besubmitted to the main office) done before they come into the classroom. If you are interested in volunteering please let me know and I will contact you when needed.

  Throughout the 2008-2009 school year we may want to take advantage of the school’s immediate surroundings (i.e. Quality Daily Fitness, science investigations, etc).  Please return the tear-off that has been sent home so that your child has  permission to go on supervised walking trips.
